Things That Are Sunnah Before Eid al-Adha Prayer and Its Verses
When Eid al-Adha comes, then the Muslims are sunnah to do Eid al-Adha prayer in congregation in a spacious place. Such as field, mosque or something like that.
Allah Ta’ala said,
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ
“Perform prayer and sacrifice (an nahr).” (QS. Al Kautsar: 2). The meaning of this verse is an order to do Eid prayer.
In doing Eid al-Adha prayer, there are several things that need to be noticed. One of them is the things that are sunnah before Eid al-Adha prayer and its verses. Even though it is sunnah, however, if we are able to do it then insha Allah there is a blessing that we will get.
Bathe Before Doing Eid al-Adha Prayer
Eid al-Adha prayer is a special worship. It is highly suggested to bathe first before doing it. Besides it is to clean ourselves, bathe and wear fragrances such as perfume can also prevent the body odor when gathering with people who want to do the prayer.
Pay attention to the kinds of baths that are sunnah in Islam well and correctly.
From Imam Baihaqi and Imam Syafi’i,
“The Prophet Saw said on Friday, “O Muslims, indeed Allah makes this day (Friday) as a feast for Muslims, then bathe, and whoever has fragrances, it is okay for them to wear it and you should brush your teeth.”
Wear the Best Clothes
Anas Ra said, “On the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, the Prophet Saw ordered us to wear the best clothes that we had and to wear the best fragrances that are on us, and to sacrifice with the fattest animals that we had.” (Hadith Al-Hakim)
The best clothes do not have to be new. The best clothes are the clothes that are in accordance with Islamic sharia and are bought in a halal and good way. Know it that there are the prohibitions of dressing in Islam, such as the prohibition of wearing silk for men and the prohibition of wearing clothes that do not cover the aurat for women.
Eat After Eid al-Adha Prayer
It is the opposite with the sunnah before Eid al-Fitr that is suggested to eat first. On the Eid al-Adha, it is suggested to eat after completing the Eid al-Adha prayer.
From ‘Abdullah bin Buraidah, from his father, he said,
“The Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam used to go to pray Eid on the Eid al-Fitr and he ate first. Meanwhile, on the Eid al-Adha, he did not eat first except after he returned from Eid prayer then he ate the results of his sacrifice.” (Hadith Ahmad 5: 352. Syaikh Syu’aib Al Arnauth said that this hadith is hasan)
This is because there is a sharia to sacrifice and it is highly suggested to eat that sacrificial processed meat. Meanwhile, the time of the slaughter and cutting of the sacrificial animals is done after the Eid al-Adha prayer.
Doing Takbeer When Going to the Eid Prayer Place
Takbeer sentence is a noble sentence. It is highly suggested to echo the takbeer when welcoming the day of victory, which is on the previous night until the morning before doing the Eid al-Adha prayer. Know it that the benefits of takbeer can be felt by ourselves for those who echo it or people who hear it.
In a narration, it is mentioned,
“The Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam usually went out to pray on the Eid al-Fitr, then he did takbeer until he was in the field and until the prayer was going to be held. When the prayer was going to be held, he stopped from doing takbeer.” (Released in As Silsilah Ash Shahihah no. 171. Syaikh Al Albani said this narration is shahih)
Those were the things that are sunnah before Eid al-Adha prayer and its verses. It is also important for us to learn and practice the sunnah of the Prophet before Eid al-Fitr. Intend all of the worship deeds that are done to achieve the pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
